The Pinawa Fire & Rescue Service has partnered with the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner and KIDDE smoke alarms to introduce the S.A.F.E. program (Smoke Alarms for Every Family) to residents of Pinawa.
The goal of the program is to reduce the number of injuries & fatalities when fire strikes residential properties in the Province of Manitoba by providing high quality 10-year smoke alarms with education on Fire Escape Planning and installation so people can escape a fire when the smoke alarms.
All Pinawa Residents are eligible to receive smoke alarms except for those living in properties that are rented where it is the responsibility of the property owner to provide the smoke alarms throughout.
The fire service encourages only those who are new to the country, seniors, single family, or low income (particularly with children), & those with a disability to make an application for the program. There is a limited number of smoke alarms on hand at the onset of the program. Simply email firedepartment@pinawa.com, visit the LGD home page navigating through the residents and fire & rescue service tabs or attend the LGD Municipal office to obtain an application. Applications will be accepted until February 29th, 2024. Those selected must agree to sign a waiver allowing fire & rescue service members into the home to install two 10-year lithium-Ion battery operated smoke alarms and participate in a fire escape plan.
