Community Bands

The music scene flourishes year round with the addition of three bands.

Eastman Community Band

The Eastman Community Band has been the only non-Winnipeg community band in Eastern Manitoba since its formation in 1986, when it was known as the Pinawa Community Band.  Over the years, they have had members join them from Whitemouth, Rennie, Seven Sisters, Beausejour, Lac du Bonnet and Silver Falls, prompting them to change their name to the Eastman Community Band in 2008.  They perform regularly at local concerts and at all the Manitoba Community Band Festival (MCBF) concerts since the event started in the mid-1980’s.  They first hosted an MCBF concert in 1994, and then regularly (on a biennial basis) since 2003, with their last concert being in 2019.  The band welcomes all new wind and percussion players, although some playing experience is required.  For more information please contact Band Director, Peter Hayward, 204-753-8338, haywardp@mymts.net.

 Pinawa Stage Band

The Pinawa Stage band  has been in existence for about 25 years.  Their repertoire consists mainly of big-band jazz and “swing” music (Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller etc. charts) plus many original numbers.  The band plays regularly at the Pinawa community concert in May and at The Forks (Winnipeg) in June.  They usually close their season by performing outdoors at the Pinawa Heritage Sundial as part of the Pinawa Birthday celebrations in July. They also play local gigs and dances when requested.  There are currently several vacancies in the sax, trumpet and trombone sections and they welcome any new musicians.  For more information please contact Band Director, Peter Hayward, 204-753-8338, haywardp@mymts.net.

JABHH

JABHH is a saxophone quintet who performs regularly at community events and personal care homes, with a wide repertoire that includes swing, seasonal, classical and show-tunes.
